Racial Harmony Day 2017 @ MLC Yishun
Racial Harmony Day is an annual event held on 21st July to commemorate the race riots of 1964 and teaches our students the importance of maintaining racial and religious harmony in Singapore’s multicultural and multi-ethnic society. To mark this day in Year 2017, My Little Campus has organised activities for the students.
In particular, MLC Yishun has organized a range of cross-cultural activities for students and their parents on the Racial Harmony Day, in hope to help students understand and appreciate the different cultures and practices of other races and emphasize the importance of living in harmony. We have involved our student’s parents to take part as well. Parents were actively involved in this celebration together with their child. The objective of this Racial Harmony Celebration is to help our young children appreciate the value of Racial Harmony and mutual understanding in a society which considers its cultural diversity an asset.
Some of the activities includes talks on the communal riots of 1964, dressing up in different ethnic costumes and playing traditional games. For the activities, we have set up with 7 different stations of the various ethnic groups. E.g. Five Stones/Spin Top, Tug-Of-War, Chinese Callgraphy, Ketupat Weaving Bag, Henna Drawing etc.
Everyone had fun as they actively engaged in the activities!
Upon closure of the celebration, all children sang along “We are Good Friends” together and a fulfilling, delicious Nasi Lemak was served for lunch. It was a meaningful afternoon well spent!
